Early modern philosophy (in particular the rationalists), metaphysics, late medieval philosophy
Due to the generous funding by the FWF (Austrian Science Fund), I'm currently on leave from the University of Graz and have just finished a year of research at the University of Toronto. I received my PhD from King’s College London with a thesis on Leibniz’s metaphysics. My current research focuses on the metaphysics and epistemology of the early modern rationalists. In particular, I am exploring how matter is composed and the extent to which medieval theories can be harnessed to gain a more nuanced picture of rationalists’ accounts. Within this endeavour, I am first and foremost concerned with the question of how rationalist principles, which tend to eliminate material entities as genuine individuals, can be reconciled with the – explicitly and implicitly existing – commitment to such entities.
